Another day in Edinburgh. I still haven't fully grasped where I am. A bit of jet lag and a bit of over stimulation. This city is so spectacular. I forgot how amazing it is. I realized I was here over ten years ago. I remember the castle but that's about it. There is so much going on at every corner. I found myself just staring today with my mouth wide open. People must think I'm mad (as in insane not angry. Just trying to use the jargon). We had breakfast at an amazing vegetarian restaurant called Hendersons. It has a cafe, a wine bar and a store. I was in heaven. We all had porridge with strawberry compote, scones and juice and tea or coffee. It was so good. And the porridge was made with soy milk. Then we went to Harvey Nichols - the store made famous by Absolutely Fabulous as Edina and Patsy would always shop there. It was quite nice. Really expensive but beautiful clothes. Then I parted ways with the gang and ventured out on my own. It was really fun. I walked along Princes St. which is the major shopping street. Then walked along the park by what was the river before they drained it. Not sure why they did that. Then I crossed the bridge and explored the Old Town. We are staying in the New Town.
I walked along the Royal Mile which leads to Edinburgh Castle. It is so spectacular. Apparently during the fringe you can barely see in front of yourself it's so packed along that strip. I found my way to our venue - The Gilded Balloon. It is part of Edinburgh University. A lovely old building. Our theatre is in the Debating Hall - I assume that's what it is when not used for comedy - and it's on the third floor. The Gilded Balloon is supposed to house the best bars in the festival. The sky bar that is for VIP fringers only. And another smaller bar. Very cool.
I then walked to the castle. I didn't go in. I'm going to wait until I have more time and more cameras. Then I made my way back to our house walking back along Princes St. I was so tired when I got back. Kathy, John and the girls arrived today. They were exhausted. Their apartment is even nicer than ours. We found out today that our house would go for 2.5 million. Ha. Wow. It is so expensive here. Basically everything costs what it costs in Toronto but in pounds which is double.
We met with our publicist, Ellie. She was really nice. And is going to try and get as many reviewers out as possible. Also going to try to get some press but their are 2500 shows so it's going to be tough.
Tomorrow night is our first show. It's a preview so probably no press but still I'm a bit nervous. I have no idea how many people will be there or how the show will go over. Wish me luck!
